One of my life philosophies is – What you believe you achieve. What you give you receive. And who you spend your time with you become more like. What kind of friends do you have? Are they people who encourage you, love you and support you?
Yesterday I went to wash my clothes and my washing machine didn’t work. Well, I’ve had some problems with it for a few months so it wasn’t a great surprise and it was 13 years old. I called on of my salsa girlfriends, Bonnie, to let her know our plans for the Wednesday night Salsa might have to change since I would need to wash clothes. My nephew Byron is graduating with his MBA in Project Management ( I am soooo proud of him) and I’m leaving town on Thursday.
Before I could even finish the story about the washing machine… Bonnie says, “So you coming over to wash your clothes, I’ll be up for awhile.” It was 9:45pm. Now that is a friend.
A few minutes later I was catching up with my friend LaVonda, who has become a new mother (she has adopted her 7 yr old niece and has her mother living with her) and mentioned the washer and she also offered to have me come over. Now that is a friend.
What kind of friends do you have? These are just two of the wonderful group of friends I have and I am so grateful for them.
As you are living by design? Ask yourself- What kind of friends do I have? Tell me about some of your FABULOUS FRIENDS.
The old Girl Scout song, Make New Friends uses the words, “but keep the old, one is silver and the other’s gold.” I have fabulous gold friends.
My gold friends are my gold chest treasure. Some have been in my life for more than forty years others are newer but still ones I value to the utmost.
My friends care, we speak frankly about our “issues” and support each other with the small or large sacrifices that accompany being there for each other.
Frances Shelton, my childhood friend, who fought breast cancer with dignified faith was a stalwart, convicted woman whom I am honored to have cherished as a friend.
Angela Renee and Almetta add the joy of friendship because we “know” each other. In that knowing is a love that fits the term longevity.
Barbara Faison is a treasured friend because we both just won’t stand for it. We understand the dilemma, devise a solution, and move on….next!
Struggles and strife are not in the program.
Lynda Shorter Jackson helps me find my heart. She touches my heart nerve everytime and that is how we connect.
My brothers Rod and Alger are divine. Whatever the need, we share the responsibility to get it done without complaint. Their support is tireless.
My Mom is my friend and a woman I adore and truly admire. The devoted love she invested in my life and for her family, especially my Dad, ranks beyond earthly words. I have learned so much.
That’s what friends, who are family, are for. However long the season, the treasure of each relationship is filled with moments to cherish.
I too have Fabulous Friends, Barbara being one of them. Uplifting, supportive, tough when I need it, and I know if I am in need, that my friends got my back. There’s this saying that goes something like…A friend is a person that knows everything about you and still likes you. My circle of folk I call friends is small, but it’s strong. I know they love me the way I am and I cherish these wonderful relationships.
